Dr. David Judisch is in his 37th year as Director of the Luren Singers, and also is Director-in-Chief for the Norwegian Singers Association of America. Dr. Judisch is Professor of Music at Luther College where he teaches studio voice, stage opera, and vocal education methods, and also is Director of the Dorian Summer Music Camps. He maintains an active career as singer, stage director, conductor, teacher, and administrator. He has performed forty-five baritone operatic roles and has appeared frequently with regional orchestras, opera companies, and choral societies in both opera and oratorio. He has studied and performed in Graz, Austria, where he worked with such teachers as Eleanor Steber, Robert Evans, and Herald Stark. He has been a frequent adjudicator for state and regional vocal competitions, and was twice a district winner in the NATS Artist Awards Competition. Our Director received his Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Iowa, and we are blessed to have him here.
Our Assistant Director since 1972 has been Bernhard Gluth, who also is Chairman of Luren's Music Committee, is Director of the NSAA's Veterans Chorus, and our resident arranger. "Bernie" as he is known and loved by generations of Luren singers also introduces every Luren concert with a fanfare on the lur, which is the Norwegian horn instrument from which The Luren Singers derive our name. Bernie is a graduate of Luther College and also did graduate work at the University of Northern Iowa. For 29 years, he taught instrumental music and conducted concert bands that were consistent winners of Division One ratings at state contests. Some of the beautiful and unique arrangements sung by The Luren Singers have been arranged by Bernhard Gluth.
